Ever since I completed my dissertation--Dimensions of Intuition: First-Round Validation Studies (University of Missouri-St. Louis, April 2009)--I've been planning to write a book on intuition. Life intervened; and I wasn't quite sure how to go about it. Until now. At last I'm ready to share what I learned during nearly two decades of study on this topic.
The goal of my book is to DEMYSTIFY intuition and make it more useful in EVERYDAY ways. I intend to include definitions and examples of the "Six Types of Intuition" (Philip Goldberg, The Intuitive Edge, 1983):
-- Discovery
-- Creativity
-- Evaluation
-- Operation
-- Prediction
-- Illumination
I utilized Goldberg's concept of these six types in my dissertation research, and he has generously given me permission to cover them in this book, as well. While I can't say these six types are finite or all-encompassing, they provide a useful foundation for understanding the oh-so-intriguing but ever-so-elusive functionality we commonly refer to as "INTUITION."
I have also created a model that places the six types on a continuum which, I believe, helps us to understand how intuition works. The model is included and explained in the book.
YOU CAN HELP!
I want to illustrate the six types of intuition by including YOUR STORIES as examples in my book: THINKING AROUND CORNERS: EVERYDAY INTUITION. Consider these questions:
-- Have you ever felt or believed you were "intuitive"--but just weren't sure?
-- Have you ever had sudden insights you didn't expect that led to experiences you couldn't explain, and wondered if this was intuition at work?
-- Have you ever relied on "feelings" or "impressions" rather than logic and analysis to make a decision--especially a snap decision?
-- Have you ever awakened with a certainty about what you should do, or had
a dream that provided an elusive but much-needed insight?
-- Have you ever had insights you couldn't explain that came with such force and certainty you were compelled to take action--even if your rational mind wasn't certain or cautioned against it?
-- Have you ever followed through on an intuitive insight and experienced an unexpected but positive or miraculous outcome?
-- Have you ever FAILED to follow through on an intuitive insight and experienced an unfortunate outcome or regret?
-- When answering a unfamiliar question on a test, have you ever picked the answer that glows? Or picked the car that glows when choosing a new vehicle?
-- Do you understand, without need for further explanation, exactly what I mean by "pick the one that glows?"
IF YOU SAID "YES" TO ANY OF THESE QUESTIONS...
I hope you will share YOUR STORY with me!
I want to include some reader experiences in my book as examples of each of the six types of intuition.
DOs and DON'Ts FOR SHARING
DO...
... scroll up to the "Contact" link at the top of this page, or click on the
SHARE YOUR STORY button at the bottom of this page
... provide as much or as little detail as you'd like about the situation, the
insight (what, when, where, who else was there, etc.), and the outcome
... include an email address and phone number so I can follow up with you
if needed
DON'T...
... be concerned with whether or how your intuition experience fits into the
six types outline
... worry about the quality of your writing, or about confidentiality
... forget to spread the word by sharing this site and opportunity with your
friends, social media contacts and others who might be interested
MY PLEDGE
1. I will never sell or share subscriber names or contact information.
